 Welcome to 4th Grade!

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to fourth grade! 환영하다 (hwanyeonghada) I look forward to sharing your precious children for the 2019-2020 school year and helping them grow in their learning and to becoming creative life-long learners.

We plan on having a fun and innovative year.  Your children will learn to be leaders in the school and in their learning.  I hope that you will enjoy this year just as much as your children will!  Below, is an introduction, so you can get to know me a little.

I look forward to a wonderful year!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Fout

Welcome to Mrs. Fout's 4th grade class. I will be your child's teacher for all subjects this year. I am excited about the year ahead. As a "Leader in Me" school, our educational teams have dedicated ourselves to incorporating the 7 Habits into our curriculum. Our 4th grade team is looking forward to working with you (parents and students) in a partnership to help each child have a successful year.

Educational Philosophy

I will love your children and instill in them a love of learning. Because learning comes from challenge, our students will be challenged to view things from different angles and perspectives. They will be challenged to become durable people. We will make mistakes and we will learn from them. I will help them to grow and become lifelong learners and leaders who are not afraid to take risks.

Education and Experience

I attended Southwestern Adventist University in Keene, Texas, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education (grades 1-8) with a minor in History (grades 1-8). I later added Gifted and Talented and English as a Second Language (1-8) to my degrees. For my first 4 years of teaching, I taught at a wonderful little school called Boles Home. It was a foster care community and school district. I still keep in touch with many of my students from there. I then moved to Royse City, where I taught for 10 years as a third grade teacher and then as the pull-out GT teacher and campus GT coordinator and tester. My husband received a promotion which moved us to Dripping Springs, where I have been teaching for 8 years as a 4th grade teacher.  I have been an educator for 22 years.

I recently attended a 42 hour summer institute in Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia. During this weeklong session on location in Colonial Williamsburg and the surrounding area, I was able to engage in an interdisciplinary approach to teaching social studies with American history as the focus. I had the opportunity to exchange ideas with historians, meet character interpreters and explore engaging instructional strategies for use in the classroom. Throughout each day, I worked collaboratively with Colonial Williamsburg staff and Master Teachers to examine interactive teaching techniques and develop instructional materials that improve instruction, raise literacy levels, enhance thinking skills, and bring history to life in the classroom.

On a personal note

I have been married for 25 years to a wonderful man named Drew, whom I met in college. We have two beautiful red-headed children; a middle school son named Conlan and a junior daughter named Mara. We have 4 cats who are named JJ, Skidmark (interesting story behind this one), Bear, Daniel (aka Tubby and Charge Cord Chewer Extraordinaire), and a chinchilla named Chimichanga (Chimmy for short). I love to read, draw, paint, spend time with my family, and listen to punk rock/punk pop, and Kpop music. I am currently finishing up writing a children's book with my sister, who will be illustrating, and hope to be published someday. I have also been learning the Korean language in hopes of someday visiting South Korea. I love watching Korean dramas and listening to Kpop music. My favorite group is BTS  I am hope to get to go to a concert the next time they come to the states. Last summer, I got to take my daughter to a Monsta X (my other favorite Kpop group) concert. It was so much fun!

I am vegan, so if you want to bring me a snack, please keep that in mind. ;-) I am also no longer drinking anything with caffeine. Both are doctor's orders.

With that being said, I will give it my all to make sure that each of the children entrusted to me will be successful this year. I am excited for the school year ahead! 화이팅!
